"Not to us, O LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness.." - Psalm 115
Worship Ministry
The Worship Ministry at FBJB is responsible for leading our musical worship during our congregational services. We are a group of volunteers from within the church body, called to lead the church body in 1) exalting Jesus Christ, 2) applying His Word to our lives.
Our aim in leading corporate worship is five-fold. We want to approach corporate worship with these things in mind:
- Honesty
- God is more concerned with our attitude than our appearance. So often in our worship services, we just go through the motions, stand up, clap our hands, sing the songs, listen to the message and leave unchanged. Throughout Scripture, we see people who appeared to worship God but their hearts were far from Him. He detests this “worship”. Our desire is to come to Him with honest hearts that overflow into genuine praise to Him.
- Humility
- Our main desire in corporate worship is to please God, not people. We change like the wind, and consequently our tastes and agendas do as well. God is unchanging and unfaltering. Rather than chasing people’s opinions (including our own) about worship, we want to chase God’s opinion. What brings Him honor? What can we do to reveal who He is? We want to approach Him in humility, exalt Him in worship, and trust His Spirit to draw people to Himself.
- Clarity
- Worship involves a rhythm of revelation and response. Our goal is to reveal who God is through Scripture, and then respond to that revelation. Therefore, the Word of God is imperative in our corporate worship services because we cannot worship a God we do not know. We want to avoid creating emotional responses to external things (music or environment), but we want to be passionate about responding to the great Creator God who desires a relationship with us.
- Community
- We are not just an assembly of individual worshippers, we are the Church, the Bride and Body of Christ. When we gather to worship together, we are exalting Christ as a community. Participation is a must from everyone. We are not putting on a “come and see” entertaining production. Instead, we are joining together as His people to give Him the honor and praise He deserves.
- Diversity
- One day, we will gather with worshippers from all over the world, from all time to exalt Jesus Christ. We are and will be a diverse group of people, but we are and will be united around the work of Christ on the cross. This should be reflected in our corporate worship.
