About Our Church
There are so many different ways to describe the nature and purpose of the ideal church. There are also many things to consider when choosing a particular church for yourself and for your family. If I had to summarize what I consider to be most important – and if I had to do it in a single word – it would be this: LIFE. A church is all about LIFE.
For us, “church” is not a building or an organization. It is an organic community of caring and committed believers who have found hope for life in the person of Jesus. We’d like nothing more than to share that life with you. At FBJB, you’ll meet people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences bound together by a common purpose of becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
It was Jesus himself who promised us the “abundant life” in John 10:10. That life can never be found in the empty promises and unfulfilling pursuits of this world. It is the gift of a sovereign and loving God who knows what we need and graciously supplies it. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Believing that real life only comes through a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, we build every ministry and mission on the Gospel message itself. Although we are all sinners, we have a loving God who offered up his own Son to die for our sins. By his death on the cross, we can be forgiven, be set free from sin, and have the certain promise of eternal life.
Once saved and forgiven, we believe in the life-changing power of God. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” We believe that God has is changing us from the inside out so that we can live full lives that glorify Him, display Him to the world, and bless us in the process.
We believe that God gives His Holy Spirit to those who put their faith in Him. The Holy Spirit regenerates us, giving us new life. We receive this gift at the moment of salvation, and our lives are never the same again! Titus 3:4-7 says: “… when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life”. The Holy Spirit then guides us through the rest of our lives, leading us to truth, convicting us of sin, giving us strength to do what is right, and comforting us when we are hurting.
We also believe in the life-shaping power of God’s Word, the Bible. We are committed to teaching the infallible Word of God as the central core of our mission. At FBJB, you will experience expository, practical, and applicable teaching from scripture in every service. Faithfully teaching the Bible is our calling and greatest privilege. We believe Hebrews 4:12 when it states “… the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” A growing understanding of and obedience to the timeless truths of the Bible are essential to experiencing and enjoying the new life we have in Christ.
Finally, we believe that God – through Jesus his son, through the Holy Spirit, and through the Bible – has already given us everything we need for a great life. It’s up to us to live it!
